Just heard from my good buddy drumaddict that the Vinster should be on the Leno show tonight playing with country artist Keith Urban. Urban's regular guy is out with Deana Carter so Vinnie is filling in on this "one off".

I saw it. Strange to see Vinnie behind a kit in natural finish!

It was good. Played with brushes, but "normal" playing, not jazz "swish" style, if you know what I mean.

i was lucky enough to flip to the tonight show right when leno was introducing them. he played a really nice but simple groove. i loved looking at the rest of the band and vinnie, the rest of the band were much younger looking. it reminded me of when i was in a punk band and i looked like a frat guy.

When watching, I couldn't help but think, "I wonder if these three guys have any idea who they're sitting next to". It was a very nice, relaxed performance. It's still just amazing to me how, no matter what environment he's in, you just HAVE to watch.

Oh, and he's finally looking every bit his age. (ONLY looking)

Have any of you ever wondered what the current crop of cats (Vin, Weck, Virg, etc) will sound like when they get up in their 60's and beyond? When I think of Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson, I just think of the natural difference in their playing because of the body aging......just a random thought.

Firstly, thanx 4 the heads up, Chris.

I rec'd it to VCR/VHS [don't know how to convert it & post it, sorry guys/un-PC savvy...if some1 can help me out ]...

    It was a basic contempo "country" [folk/lite-lite rock, really]/acoustic-guitar/balladesque tune in 4/4, w a 1/2-time feel, 1/4 = approx 80-81... K/RF on 1, "&" of 3...hands- snare, 16ths w brushes, accents on the 2 / "a" of 2 / "e" of 3 / 4...

Amazingly, the camera gave Vinnie the opening shot of the tune/segment, a long one of almost 15 seconds, from his R/FT side, starting w a close-up of his hands on the snare, & gradually zooming out to his whole body/kit...several decent shots of the Vinmeister...he was set up to the R of the other 4 guys at an angle [stage R; our L]...it was a 5 pc. band, looked like 4 strg elec bass, "Urban" on acou 6 strg gtr, another acou-elec gtr, & elec keys...Vinnie was playing a 6 pc natural wood fin [light beige wood, like a cream color, sorry, dont know that partic fin name] Gretsch...what looked like 3 crash [or 2 & a china], 1 splash, & ride...

Vinnie did look like the pro seasoned veteran compared to the other guys, who were wearing blue jeans & what looked like black T's, except for Urban, who was wearing some sort of [jack ] black leather stage shirt...Vinnie was in all black...however, it was NOT the famed jogging outfit w T ...

Funny thing is, in the very 1st bar of the tune [not counting the intro/drum fill lead-in] it almost sounded like Urban's acou gtr & the snare didn't jive, or something...[Vinnie starts the tune w a drum fill lead-in: 2 sn accent hits on the 4-e]...then the DB on 1, the sn acc on 2, then VC did a 32nd-note flourish over "3-e-&" [with the accent on the kick on the "&"], & it almost sounds like VC is actually draggiing it a p-hair it on the "a" of 2 or on the 3...it's a subtle "feel" thang...

I thought VC "looked good for his age." [No dis intended.]

...Plaid quote: "When watching, I couldn't help but think, 'I wonder if these three guys have any idea who they're sitting next to'..."

Exactly. [But I bet a lot of those Nash boyz do...]

Fuses assesment of the spot was dead on,although i didnt notice the flub.

    Great understated playing by Vinnie.

Can u get his signature kit with that wood finish??

Its totally freaky to me to have all this genius Vinnie drumnistic material on my hard drive/cd/video/tape. Then i see him play simply and its just....i dont know amazing,i guess discipline comes with age.

By the way the song licked donkey-balls.
